Practical training in catamaran control consists of several parts, one of the most important of which is learning how to perform port maneuvers correctly and safely. If you are interested, you can take the exams to obtain the "Voditelj brodice kategorija B" license. Our instructor will fully prepare you for these exams during the course, and the price also includes learning materials.
The course we organize is led by an experienced instructor and includes the following main areas:
Theoretical preparation:
Getting to know the structure and controls of the catamaran
The process of landing and leaving the port (necessary steps, safety principles)
Explanation of the effects of wind, current and waves on the catamaran during port maneuvers
Preparation for maneuvering:
Checking the onboard equipment and accessories (ropes, fenders)
Ensuring communication between crew members
Choosing an appropriate port strategy considering the current conditions
Landing simulation:
Practice approaching the pier with an emphasis on maintaining the correct angle and speed
Gradual reduction of speed and use of reverse gear for stabilization and precise landing
Practice using ropes and fenders during landing
Maneuvering in the port:
Learning various techniques for turning on the spot and changing direction in confined spaces
Practical exercises such as the “honeycomb” or “flexible maneuver” that allow the catamaran to maneuver in close proximity to other ships or port facilities
Landing at the berth:
Practice landing in crosswind or upwind to piers or pontoons
Preparation and use of anchor when landing if necessary
Leaving the harbor:
Procedures for safely departing the pier
Choosing the correct route and time itinerary
Safety procedures:
Practice evacuation and rescue procedures
Practical exercises to handle emergencies such as fires on board or sudden technical problems
Feedback and evaluation:
Discussion with the instructor about the strengths and weaknesses of the maneuvers performed
Personal feedback for improvement and tips for further practice
Practical exercises will involve a gradual increase in the difficulty of the maneuvers so that the participants gain confidence and become able to independently perform port maneuvers in various port conditions and situations.
The course will take place in Croatian waters. The location of the course will be specified no later than 1.3.2026.
